The Empowerment Group
Provides complete legitimacy to all of its participants’ feelings and emotions, which include rage, anger, frustration, helplessness, and inequality. Most often, feelings of basic suspicion mixed with a desire to form an initial cohesion are apparent at the beginning of the process. Gradually, each teen’s level of cooperation, involvement and degree of openness increase.
The teens’ experiences:
• The teens tend to arrive at the gatherings persistently and punctually. They requested the school coordinator to hold the empowerment meetings on free days before matriculation exams, and demonstrated full attendance.
• The teens informed of great satisfaction from their participation in the empowerment meetings, which allowed them to:
1. Get to know new aspects of themselves and of their friends.
2. Display weaknesses and share personal experiences with others without fear of criticism.
3. Demonstrate empathy towards others and gain new close friends.
• The teens used the following expressions when discussing their positive personal feelings:
1. Increased feeling of self-worth.
2. Increased feeling of social capability.
3. Greater faith in their abilities and skills.
4. Recognition of their ability to contribute to the other.
5. Improved ability to persevere with assignments and face goals they set for themselves
