Touching The Horizon at the Hazerim Israeli Air force Base
Some twenty children from the Touching the Horizon program participated in an experiential and unique program at the Air Force base in Hazerim, near Beersheva, in the south of Israel on Wednesday 27th February 2008.
The activity day included dressing up in pilots' uniform, participating in a rescue and evacuation drill with the Hazerim fire brigade, learning about combat helicopters and watching helicopters in flight and landing.
The children benefited from an inspiring day lead by a flying course commander and a cadet pilot on his first flight. Some of the children were so impressed that they aspire to be pilots themselves!
The activities at the Hazerim Air Force base were an emotional and thrilling interaction between a group of children who suffer from social and economic difficulties and the apotheosis of Israeli society – The Israeli Air Force. The whole experience instilled a sense of satisfaction and hope in the children's minds as well as a willingness to integrate into the Israeli Defense Force in the future.
